Position: Adult Day Service Bus Driver

Reports to: Adult Day Program Site Manager

Location: Rockford

Salary Range: $16.22/hour

Position Type: Part-Time

FLSA: Non-Exempt


Job Summary:


This position is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for senior adults attending the Adult Day Program. This position may be assigned duties which would support the transportation component of ADP, including, but not limited to routing, scheduling and responding to client's transportation needs. Driver must be able to communicate effectively with senior who may experience some Dementia and/or cognitive impairments.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have valid drivers license and clean driving record for three years prior to employment.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be physically capable of safely transporting older riders.
  • Must be willing to undergo and pass appropriate drug screening and background checks as may be required by funding sources or agency policy.
  • Previous Bus Driving experience highly desirable.
  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with older persons, persons with sight and hearing impairments, and persons with a variety of social, economic and cultural backgrounds with an emphasis on
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Not have been convicted within 3 years of the date of application of any of the following offenses involving the operation of a motor vehicle: Driving Under the Influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI), Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, Drag Racing, Manslaughter, Reckless Homicide, Reckless Conduct

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Must be able to lift and move minimum 50 lbs. on daily basis.
  • Must be able to drive and navigate with use of map or directions.
  • Must qualify for bonding.
  • Must be organized and have ability complete documentation accurately.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate instructions to persons with limited abilities, and work well with a variety of different people, especially senior citizens and the disabled.
  • Must be able to adapt to schedule changes and unforeseen circumstances.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Complete training and obtain a JO5 Driver's license designation.
  • Safe transport of clients to/from Lifescape Adult Day Program.
  • Ability to operate the bus lift. (Will receive training regarding the proper procedures to perform this responsibility safely safely).
  • Responsible for accepting from caregivers any medications that would be needed by client during hours of programming. Those medications are to be given directly to the Program Nurse or Site Manager upon arrival to the Center.
  • Responsible for safe operation of assigned vehicle on scheduled routes, arriving at destinations in timely manner.
  • Assist elderly and/or disabled, when necessary, to board or leave the vehicle. This is a curb-to-curb service, which may include assisting clients with their belongings.
  • Assist and supervise riders in such a way that they will be transported safely. Disregard for client safety shall be cause for dismissal.
  • Ability to operate vehicle equipment safely, obeying all traffic laws. Tickets for moving violation may be cause for dismissal.
  • Responsible for maintaining agency vehicle in clean and safe operation conditions. Disregard for agency equipment shall be cause for dismissal.
  • Responsible for daily walk around inspection of vehicle prior to driving and reporting of any needed repairs to immediate supervisor. Report any problems with vehicle to supervisor at end of daily run.
  • Responsible for completing trip logs and other documentation accurately, including clients transported, destination, miles driven, gas purchases (and attaching gas receipt), etc., and submitting to immediate supervisor in timely manner.
  • Perform day-to-day routine maintenance on vehicles, including, but not limited to, washing, airing tires, checking fluids and adding same as required and minor repairs as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain appearance, conduct and speech consistent with expectations of job duties and service population.
  • Must maintain clean driving record. Reckless driving or DUI conviction will be cause for dismissal. Two moving violations against license in any 12-month period will be cause for dismissal.
  • Must attend work related training as assigned by supervisor and paid for by the agency.
  • Must be flexible to changing work environment and/or assignments.
  • Substitute as driver for Transportation Driver when the need arises.
  • Must represent the agency professionally in manner, speech and dress.
  • Must be respectful of and maintain the dignity of the clients we serve.
  • Must attend ALL mandatory trainings.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Site Manager, Program Director or the Executive Director.
