Dry Kiln Operator Summary

American Hardwood industries is a leading producer of hardwood lumber and other forest products. We are seeking a full-time dry kiln operator at our North Garden, VA location. Dry kiln operators play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency of our operation, and quality of our products. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a world class lumber organization.

Dry Kiln Operator Responsibilities:

  • Configuring kiln charges to be loaded ensuring maximum volume utilization while adhering to FIFO standards
  • Determine drying cycle and schedule, considering factors such as species, thickness, and quantity of lumber to be dried, initial moisture content of lumber, or moisture reduction rate of lumber samples.
  • Read recording gauges and weighs lumber samples periodically during drying process and readjusts temperature and humidity controls to regulate moisture reduction rate and avoid damage to lumber.
  • Performing and/or scheduling general maintenance, and keeping accurate records of all kiln activity

Dry Kiln Operator Qualifications

  • Excellent math and measuring
  • Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Communication skills
  • Prior dry kiln experience preferred, but not required
  • 2 or 4 year degree in wood science, forestry, or related fields preferred but not required
