The CASA program is committed to providing high-quality advocacy services to abused and neglected youth in the child welfare and family court system.


The Lead CASA Volunteer Coordinator is the organization's face, and manages the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers with the goal of ensuring that abused and neglected children receive effective advocacy and permanency planning.  Under the direction of the COO Director, performs recruiting, training, placement, and supervision of volunteers. Coordinates with the court system, partner agencies, and local organizations for the betterment of local foster children. 


EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

An Associate’s Degree in Human Services or a related field is required, with one-year experience in child welfare services and volunteer management preferred.  Computer and office machine experience required as well. 


The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as organize and prioritize work is necessary.  Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment is essential.  Skill in handling detailed data/information with accuracy and confidentiality is required.  Additionally, must be able to problem solve and work independently to successfully fulfill this job’s responsibilities.


This position will require regular travel within the service area with occasional evenings and/or weekend availability.  Outside service travel requirements is approximately 4% of employment time.   A good driving record and access to regular and reliable transportation is required. Insurance minimums must be met and maintained. Mileage is reimbursed with appropriate insurance coverage.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Facilitates the independent study curriculum to increase the volunteer pool in-between offered courses.
  • Reviews new cases. Aids with child visitation as needed.
  • Gathers documentation from courts, agencies, and helps volunteers develop initial case plans and on-going strategies for advocacy.
  • Reviews, edits, writes, and electronically files court reports, attends court hearings, and tracks court dates.
  • Provides consultation as needed for court hearings and any other necessary meetings that benefit the foster child.
  • Fills in for volunteers as needed for court hearings and other necessary meetings that benefit the foster child, including visits with the child. In doing so, must meet all CASA Advocate standards including minimum age of 21.
  • Ensures that the CASA database is up-to-date and accurate, and maintains office forms relevant to management of volunteers.
  • Maintains and submits records relevant to recruiting, training, and placement of CASA volunteers.
  • Facilitates 12 hours of continued education per year for CASA volunteers.
  • Plans and implements fundraising and recruiting events.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with community agencies and partners.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ensures the CASA Care Closet is stocked, organized, and marketed for use.
  • Utilizes social media and the CASA website for effective community engagement.
  • Assists the COO with grant writing and claims.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

The position may require lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs., walking, climbing, bending, sitting, stooping, kneeling, driving, prolonged visual concentration, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.  There is a moderate degree of mental concentration pertaining to the job at hand.  If assistance is needed, contact your supervisor.
