Overview:

Currently, we are looking for a Controller to join our team. Given the significance of this job in our organization, we believe the ideal applicant will have the leadership qualities to guarantee they are a champion of our company's culture both internally and externally.

This individual will report directly to the CEO and have two direct reports on the accounting team. Given that the Controller is in charge of all accounting and fiscal elements of our organization, you will communicate closely with other department heads, including the Director of Project Management and the Director of Field Operations, on various cross-departmental workflows.

Experience in the construction industry, Sage 300, and Procore is preferred but not required.

This position will be based out of our office in Alexandria, MN.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Managemento Collaborate with the CEO and ownership to develop and manage operating budgets that are linked to strategy and sales strategies, and analyze spending quarterly versus budget.

Monitor budget variations and help Project Managers manage project budgets for accuracy.

o Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with tax and benefit reporting requirements.

o Manage continuous cash flow estimates and billing procedures to increase net days sales outstanding (DSO) and cash flow on a yearly basis.

o Annually, assess and modify insurance coverage with executives.

o Create techniques for efficiently managing receivables and payment concerns.

o Provide accurate and timely financial reports and predictions, and ensure that all financial records are reconciled.

o Review financial performance on a monthly basis to ensure completeness and correctness.

o Maintain strong ties with insurance providers and analyze consumers' financial soundness.

o Collaborate with the CEO and owners to maintain strong relationships with financial service providers and establish backup links.

o Maintain a 0% timecard fraud rate and efficiently manage payroll processing deadlines.

o Stay current on advancements impacting banking and bonding capabilities.

Strategic Planning and Communication

Work with the executive team to establish long-term objectives and oversee key financial activities.

o Keep leadership informed about financial concerns by preparing and presenting thorough financial analysis on a regular basis.

o Use visual tools to improve financial data interpretation and project forecasting accuracy.

Supervision and Leadership

Promote the company's ideals and culture.

o Lead and grow the accounting staff through training and regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports.

Participate in the company's leadership team.

o Develop strong internal and external ties to support a performance-driven culture.

o Provide non-financial managers with financial training that focuses on understanding and accurately anticipating work costs and cash flow.

Process Compliance

o Ensure consistent usage and results of SAGE accounting software, including frequent process compliance measurements.

o Create and maintain systems for efficient financial data access and utilization in project management.

Tax Planning and Reporting

o Collaborate with an outside CPA team to uncover yearly tax planning possibilities and maintain compliance with all filing and deposit dates.

Collaborate with advisers to develop and implement tax-saving measures.

Experience

  • A valid CPA CMA or other related accounting designation is preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry is required.
  • Experience with Sage 300 (Timberline) or Procore is preferred.
  • Degree in Accounting required.
  • Good sense of humor preferred.
