REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Position reports to Right-of-Way Tree Trimmer Foreman

Directs: None

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required. All appropriate training is offered on the job. Must be able to acquire Louisiana State Arborist License, and a Louisiana State Commercial Pesticide Applicator License and obtain Commercial Drivers License.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

OBJECTIVES

Provide reliable service to consumers by keeping the right-of-way for electrical power lines cleared from interference by trees and other vegetation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Follow National Arborist Association specification for pruning trees while achieving adequate line clearance and adhering to Cooperative's Line Clearance-Vegetation Management policies.
  2. Spray, trim, top, prune, and remove trees using ROW equipment under strict supervision adhering to Cooperative Clearance Vegetation Management Policies under supervision.
  3. Maintenance of ROW trucks, tools and working equipment.
  4. Properly apply herbicides as needed on Cooperative's right-of-way under supervision.
  5. Complete line clearing and vegetation management seminars applicable to SLEMCO's procedures.
  6. Follows, Cooperative, OSHA, state, and other regulatory rules and procedures as they pertain to, but not limited to, safety in the workplace.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Commercial Drivers License and heavy equipment operations preferred.


WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Lafayette summer hours are 6:30 am to 3:30 pm with a one-hour lunch. Lafayette winter hours are 6:30 am to 3:00 with a half hour lunch. Other service center hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm with one-hour lunch. Winter hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 with half hour lunch. The employee is required to work on a callout/rotation basis, which will include odd and unusual hours, including Saturdays, Sundays, holidays or evening and/or night shifts. Incumbent of this classification is required to be available for emergency and/or pre-arranged work whenever called upon. Wear proper safety attire, such as but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses, and work gloves as needed. Frequently wearing of long sleeved Fire Resistant clothing in adverse weather conditions. Employee is required to perform heavy to moderate physical labor that involves equipment such as, but not limited to, the following: power saws, chainsaw, pull stick sections that may extent up to 30 feet, shovel work, branches, limbs and other equipment that may weigh up to 75 pounds, insulating rubber gloves and work gloves required in some situations, climbing equipment, herbicide backpacks, working from heights. Must have ability to sit in a vehicle to drive and/or ride to various right of way sites. The average number of miles and the amount of time driving/riding will vary depending on the number of sites to be visited each day. Manual dexterity and visual acuity are required to maintain proper safety while driving the vehicle to and from various job sites. Ability to work in 100% outside in adverse conditions such as rough terrain, inclement weather, near extreme noise levels, fumes, around insects and near live electrical equipment, sometimes at night and in all temperature extremes.
