Job Description

General Summary of Duties: Assists in the delivery of primary health care and management. Prepares patients for examination and treatment, takes patient histories and vital signs, prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, may give injections and apply splints and dressings, assists physicians in preparing for minor surgeries, physicals, etc., along with other related work as required.

Examples of Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  • Performs selected nursing duties.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient histories and vital signs, documents, and patient records.
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  • May give injection and apply splints and dressings.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment, including sterilization.
  • Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries, physicals, etc.
  • Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments.
  • Screens telephone calls for referrals to nurse or physician
  • Provides general information on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Orders and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains patient's files, records, and other information.
  • Compiles and condenses technical and statistical data for reports and records.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Attends conferences and workshops.
  • Maintains patient and office confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program along with completion of a clinical externship and program. Applicant must be credentialed or registered with the State as a Medical Assistant.

Experience: A minimum of six months medical assisting experience preferred. Strong customer service experience along with computer experience required.
