Job Title: Large Animal Technician

Job Description: The Large Animal Technician is responsible for the comprehensive care of animals, encompassing essential tasks such as feeding, cleaning, treatment, and preventive medicine. This role plays a pivotal part in the daily production and upkeep of animal areas within the facility, ensuring the well-being and health of the animals under their care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care for large animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their well-being. AM/PM daily.
  • Complete daily production which may include injections, bleeding, milking etc.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary living environments for animals by regularly cleaning pens, stalls, and animal housing areas.
  • Document findings and job completions in the required logs.
  • Safely handle large animals for various procedures, including medical treatments, grooming, and transportation.
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks to keep the animal facilities in good repair and ensure a safe environment.
  • Provide mental and physical stimulation for animals through enrichment activities and environmental improvements.
  • Adhere to all relevant animal welfare regulations, industry standards, and facility protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Animal Science degree or 4 or more years of animal related experience.
  • Good oral and written communications skills (English).
  • Windows based computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A valid driver's license in good standing for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Must be able to work rotating holidays and weekends.
  • Must be a team player.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to lift or move up to 50lbs or more on a regular basis.
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching at various times throughout the day.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extremes in temperature, and occasionally farm equipment. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can vary from minimal to loud.
