Salary:

Position: Full-time hourly working under a collective bargaining agreement at the National Training Center (NTC), Fort Irwin, California.


 


Responsibilities: Support Observer Controller (OC) team with situational awareness, doctrinal principles, and tactical knowledge; operate Mission Command Systems to create, consolidate, edit, and print products. Observes and analyzes in real time and from stored exercise data the events that occur during simulated combat operations, makes judgments concerning the adequacy and soundness of tactical command, control, and maneuver. Ensures combat systems are correctly replicated, instrumented and portrayed. Collects battle data to provide situational awareness to the Observer Controllers and to support AAR process. Provides battle and safety control. Provides the senior headquarters for the BLUFOR indirect fires units, OPFOR fires units, targeting units (radar), maneuver brigade or battalion, provides technical and tactical expertise for scenario development to include development, updating and briefing the scenario. Provides control to BLUFOR / OPFOR fires and IED weapons effects emplacement as required. Provide technical assistance for the Multi-Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) and Instrumentation checks, boresight operations (BSO), and installation. Control fire support asset(s), analyze operations orders, graphics, support plans, and pre-battle briefings. Process fire missions and targeting through computer, and perform assessment and analysis of fire missions. Keep the TAFF leaders apprised of all aspects of fire missions. Use radio system to communicate with units and field OCs. Produce and reproduce overlays and perform graphics and data input into computer systems. Complete TAFF Certification process within 120 days of hire or as scheduled for re-certification. Ability to learn current NTC-IS operational software and hardware systems. Exercise staff supervision of DIVARTY fire support rehearsals and tactical fire control procedures. Manage the operation of the DIVARTY Counter-fire section. Manage radar employment / counter-fire plan. Manage the replication of OPFOR radar. Control field technicians, cross-trains on artillery tactical systems in the DIVARTY Cell. Support quality/ISO, security, safety and training programs. Produce After-Action Review (AAR) and Take-Home Package (THP) products as required. In response to computer output instructions on error conditions, devises a course of action from among several alternatives and alters or deviates from standard procedures if standard procedures do not provide a solution (e.g. reassigning equipment in order to work around faulty equipment or transfer channels); then refers problems if necessary. Refers problems which are not resolved. Will adhere to NTC, Operations Group, company, Site Manager, directives, memoranda, policies and procedures. May perform other assigned duties as directed to meet customer requirements. 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.


Experience: A minimum of 4 years military experience is desired. 


Specific Knowledge: Experience at NTC as an observer controller with a working knowledge of computer network systems and data processing, NTC-IS, Microsoft Office Applications, Windows Operating Systems, Command Post of the Future (CPOF), and Distributed Common Ground Systems (DCGS-A) is desired.


Communication Skills: Applicant must demonstrate a solid command (both written and oral) of the English language.  Must have excellent verbal communication skills for interfacing with military and civilian personnel.

Special Requirements: Must have a valid California driver’s license and maintain Post driving privileges. Obtain Military licenses & Night Vision certification if required. Travel off road in company 4x4 vehicles and military tactical vehicles if required. Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) to utilize government operating systems. Must be a U. S. citizen,  and be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.


Working Environment: Primarily an office environment, applicants will occasionally be required to work outdoors in a desert environment.  Frequent exposure to dust, desert pollen, extreme heat and cold associated with desert and natural conditions existing on Fort Irwin. Must be able to perform duties and travel in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, and wind) and at height (helicopter travel, mountain tops, elevated walk areas and towers). Applicants must be willing to work any shift to include weekends, overtime and holidays.  Travel may be required.
