Salary: 18.00/hr

Job Summary:  The Program Support Specialist is responsible for providing support and assistance in addressing hunger and nutrition needs in underserved and rural locations in the 19 counties service area of the food bank.  You will assist and coordinate food distributions through our partner agencies, mobile outreach operations, senior distributions and in our in-house pantries. The Program Support Specialist will coordinate governmental and regulatory agency programs including, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), Feeding America and Feeding Texas.  In addition, the Program Support Specialist will assist in internal food distribution programs like Food 2 Kids and School Pantry Program. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with design and supervision of the monthly schedule of senior and mobile distributions
  • Coordinate food distribution at Food 2 Kids backpack sites and school pantry sites
  • Complete appropriate intake paperwork for each client to ensure compliance with Feeding America guidelines and TDA, TEFAP, and CSFP guidelines
  • Respond to requests regarding establishment of senior and mobile distribution sites and assist with the establishment of new partner agencies, including backpack and school pantry sites that have a vested interest in food insecurity in the area
  • Monitor partner agencies, senior and mobile distribution sites and backpack and school pantry sites to ensure compliance with TDA, TEFAP, CSFP, Feeding American and Feeding Texas
  • Work with warehouse staff and drivers to assure proper quantities of food are available for each food distribution
  • Assist as backup to Kids Café cooks
  • Assist Program Manager with administrative duties
  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to secure and manage volunteers
  • Maintain a knowledge of all program requirements, including contractual obligations of TEFAP, CSFP, Feeding America and Feeding Texas
  • Provide reports and documentation on a regular basis
  • Attend meetings and training as required
  • Provide administrative support to Internal Program Manager and Program Director
  • Travel with mobile food outreach team to assist in the distribution of food to our surrounding counties
  • Interview potential clients to determine social service needs
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull at least 50 lbs
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or Ged
  • 1 year experience working within a non- profit organization or related areas
  • Skills in verbal and written communication and the ability to plan and organize multiple work tasks as well as good interpersonal communication skills are essential. Fluency in Spanish and English preferred
  • Basic knowledge of Ms Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
  • Demonstrate professionalism and speak respectfully when interacting with staff, volunteers and the general public
  • High level of personal integrity and honesty
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Must pass a background check
  • Operate personal vehicle on a daily basis when a food bank vehicle is not available, this includes traveling in 19 counties
  • Valid Driver License
