SJS Executives, LLC (SJS) is currently seeking reliable, safety conscious, experienced AC Mechanic to work full time for SJS in Manhattan NY, to help support operations at a Veteran’s Affairs Hospital.

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. SJS specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

The AC Mechanic must possess a minimum of 5 years of verified experience and possess an EPA 608 Universal Certificate. AC Mechanics must also possess their own tools to accomplish the work that will be assigned to them.

The Pay for this position will be $35.25/Hr. The benefits will also include 11 paid Federal holidays per year, 56 hours accrued Sick time; and medical, health, dental, vision and life insurance package.

This person will enjoy collaborating with a team and know how to conduct themselves with decorum, as they will be working on a property owned by the United States federal government and interacting with federal employees and service members.

Some of the Responsibilities will include:

  • Correcting life safety and Environment of Care workplace deficiencies in addition to work involving installing, testing, trouble-shooting, repairing and performing preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment and components used for heating, cooling, ventilating, humidifying, dehumidifying, and filtering.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment that includes chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, steam valves, pumps, compressors, motors, variable frequency drives, and a central computer control system.
  • Maintenance work requires complicated trouble shooting and repairs such as installing and fitting bearings and bushings, overhauling valves by adjusting or replacing gaskets, springs, floats, diaphragms, valve fittings, seals, and couplings; and aligning motors and drives.
  • Repairs include replacing valve plates, broken flares, and copper tubing, repacking glands, adjusting expansion valves, replacing small electric motors and making temporary plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • AC Mechanic will also troubleshoot, repair and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, fixtures and controls on equipment assigned.
  • Maintains air handlers, supply and exhaust fans, cooling towers, condensers, compressors, pumps, motors, blower fans, evaporators, reducing valves, heating-and cooling-coils, and related items.
  • This requires knowledge of the operating principles of a variety of steam, electrical, and pneumatic components and the safety considerations involved in their use.
  • Traces circuits, locates shorts, replaced fuses. Inspects equipment for faulty or defective wiring. Makes necessary splices and other repairs.
  • Replaces equipment, such as motors, pulleys and belts, to correct problems.
  • Preventive maintenance involves inspection, adjustment, and repair of equipment and components, including adding refrigerant, adjusting steam valves, changing filters in air handlers, cleaning strainers, replacing broken or worn drive belts, and lubricating pumps and motors.
  • It also includes flushing and cleaning cooling tower sections repairing pump seals, bearings, and couplings, packing or replacing valves, cleaning scraping, wire-brushing and painting equipment, adjusting pneumatic valves and switches, replacing fuses. etc.

Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in commercial HVAC work.
  • EPA 608 Universal certification Required.
  • Must also possess their own tools to accomplish the work that will be assigned to them.
  • Must possess the knowledge, skill and ability to determine the proper tools and equipment needed to perform the functions of painter, to plan and lay out work from, sketches, blueprints, Written and oral instruction meeting building codes and organization specifications.
  • May be required to make complex technical decisions and judgments to make repairs, alterations and installations based on those written or oral instructions in accordance with acceptable trade practices.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
