Job Description:

The Senior Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients. The Senior Mental Health Technician assists in providing basic physical, social, spiritual and safety needs of patients through the implementation of appropriate therapeutic approaches and related nursing functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Program Director and within the scope of the Senior Mental Health Technician position. Assists in orientation, mentoring and development of new Mental Health Techs.


Qualifications

Shift:  FULL TIME NIGHTS

 

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Behavioral science undergraduate degree a plus (Psychology, Social work and Sociology).

 

Experience:

Minimum two years in an inpatient or partial psychiatric/mental health setting with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques, demonstrated understanding of mental illness and related behavioral management techniques, and development of therapeutic and management programs targeted for special population.

 

License/Certification:

Current BCLS Certification. Successful completion of Crisis Management Course De-escalation, including restraint and seclusion practices and policies within 30 days of employment and prior to assisting in restraining procedures.

 

Other:

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.
