Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Location: Charleston, TN
Description: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team in Charleston, TN. The TVI will provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, empowering them to reach their full academic potential and independence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students and collaborate with a team of dedicated educators in a supportive school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, using a variety of instructional strategies and materials to meet individual learning needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, educational specialists, and related service providers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Conduct assessments of students' visual functioning and educational needs, and develop appropriate instructional goals and objectives
- Teach pensatory skills, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology, to support students' academic and functional independence
- Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers and other school staff on instructional acmodations and modifications for students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with families to support students' learning and development, and provide resources and training on strategies for supporting their child's educational needs at home
- Stay current on best practices and research in the field of visual impairment education, and participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Master's degree in Special Education with a focus on Visual Impairments preferred
Certifications:
- Valid Tennessee teaching license with endorsement in Visual Impairments (TVI)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in an educational setting
- Knowledge of braille literacy, orientation and mobility techniques, and assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments
- Strong munication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
