Job Description
About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world's transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

This is an exciting opportunity to become a foundational member of Sila's Industrial Engineering Team, responsible for designing future factories. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to establish, optimize and deploy production systems from the ground up, setting the stage for efficient scaling of our novel silicon anode operations. Key responsibilities include developing a master model for plant capacity to maximize production performance, implementing innovative replenishment systems like Kanban, and being instrumental in designing the plant's layout and workflow. You will play a critical role in not only the current facility's efficiency but also in shaping the design and strategy of future plants. You will actively identify and solve production challenges, working collaboratively with teams to enhance throughput and reduce costs. This position offers the chance to make significant, lasting contributions to how Sila scales into the Electric Vehicle market.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and manage a plant capacity master model to optimize production performance and efficiency
  • Maintain the WIP plan for the entire plant and use operational data to readjust periodically
  • Design and deploy physical replenishment systems, storage systems and processes like Kanban for spare parts and consumables (e.g. pallets, sample bottles, lab supplies, etc.)
  • Plan and lead interdisciplinary Kaizen events or implement continuous improvement actions.
  • Design the overall facility layout, storage, and flow paired with the appropriate equipment supporting the Factory Basis of Design
  • Maintain and update the factory layout and Basis of Design document and work with the process development and equipment design team to design the future lines
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • B.S. in Industrial Engineering or related fields, Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of industrial experience.
  • Understanding of Theory of Constraints
  • Experience with MES and ERP systems
  • Experience in deploying Lean Manufacturing tools
  • Experience in Optimization, Simulation and basic coding (Python)
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

The starting base pay for this role is between $106,000 and $134,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila's competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. #LI-RS1 #LI-Onsite
