Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Clinic (OSSM) is a premier subspecialty-oriented orthopedic group with fellowship trained physicians with an immediate opening for a full-time DME (Durable Medical Equipment) Fitter.

Summary/Objective
Under the direct supervision and ordered by the providers, the DME Fitter will provide proper fitting and education of orthopedic durable medical equipment (DME), such as knee braces, shoulder immobilizers, walking boots, wrist braces, etc. to patients and will gather necessary paperwork to facilitate billing on behalf of the practice. The DME Fitter will provide the highest level of customer service to patients, providers, and all clinic personnel, and strive to meet performance goals of OSSM. We have multiple locations so this position would also be cross trained in rooming patients and acting as a Medical Assistant from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Certified DMEPOS by an accredited school, preferred or;
3. American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification preferred
4. Two years of health care experience preferred.
5. Efficient in the use of standard office equipment, data entry, typing, 10-key skills, and alpha/numerical filing.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Athletic training certification preferred, though not required
  • Prior sports medicine experience preferred, though not required
  • Strong medical terminology and anatomy knowledge
  • Responsible for proper fitting and patient instruction of bracing
  • Use of cast saw and ability to cast and splint
  • Provides education to patients on the application, use, care, and expected outcome for orthopedic durable medical equipment (DME) products as indicated by the physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Assists patients with defective product returns to manufacturer for warranty replacement.
  • Performs functional brace measuring and fitting as prescribed by the physicians and coordinating with patients for follow-up fitting appointments as necessary.
  • Obtains Certificate(s) of Medical Necessity forms and patient medical records as necessary for the billing department for processing of insurance claims.

Cross Training as Medical Assistant
  • Taking medical history
  • Take record of interventions, and ensure prescription refills are made
  • patient medicine reconciliation is completed.
  • Responsible for stocking rooms with medical supplies.
Essential Job Functions (Physical)

  • Read a variety of printed and handwritten materials, computerized reports, manuals, and correspondence.
  • Communicates with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person and on the telephone.
Work Environment:
  • Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine operates in a professional office environment. Days and hours of work are conducted Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine has multiple locations and travel may be required.
