About the Role:

The role of Drop Install Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and burial of fiber-optic cables to connect residential and commercial properties to the network. Key duties include conducting on-site surveys, utilizing specialized equipment for trenching and burial, performing cable testing, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Regular reporting on installations, maintenance, and customer education on cable care are integral to providing high-quality service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install underground utilities such as cable, internet, or telephone lines according to company standards and specifications.
• Excavate trenches using hand tools or machinery to bury cables or lines at appropriate depths, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
• Handle cables, wires, and related equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring proper placement and organization within trenches or conduits.
• Operate heavy equipment such as mini-excavators or trenchers to facilitate digging and trenching operations as needed.
• Inspect completed work to ensure that cables are buried at the correct depth, properly secured, and free from damage or defects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cable placement, depth, or other installation challenges encountered during the course of work.
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries during digging, trenching, and cable installation activities.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including job details, materials used, and any relevant observations or challenges encountered.
• Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and support staff to coordinate installation projects and provide technical assistance when needed.
• Educate customers on proper care and maintenance of their cable installations to prevent damage or service disruptions.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Key Qualifications:

• HSD, or equivalent education, is required.
• 1-3 years’ experience working as a drop bury tech, line technician, and/or similar role.
• Experience operating heavy equipment such as trenching and/or boring equipment.
• Valid Drivers’ Licenses, required.
• Must have an understanding of basic construction principles.
• Must have ability to follow directions.
• Must have or be able to obtain knowledge of “safety systems” associated with aerial cable including set-up and emergency procedures.

Additional Notes:

• This position may require being on call. Employees will respond to emergency call between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. This position may require weekend work, night work and/or overnight travel.
• This position involves working outdoors.
• This position does require travel between counties within Indiana
