Bronxworks is a dynamic community-based organization committed to helping individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community.

BronxWorks seeks a self-motivated, outgoing Program Director to work closely with our Team in charge of a National Institute of Health grant aimed to shed light on health disparities that affect public housing residents. The grant, which is a 10-year project will work with public housing residents who reside in PACT designated complexes in a consensus building, community led project to seek better health outcomes for those seeking improved childcare and after school program settings.

The Program Director will work with our Research partners and the National Institute of Health to build the project through planning, implementation, and evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate weekly and monthly meetings to provide opportunities for stakeholders to discuss internal operational issues, learn about the political process, discuss current events impacting the community, and identify upcoming advocacy and organizing opportunities.
  • Facilitate the development of a steering committee which will be comprised of key community stakeholders.
  • Facilitate Leadership Development Training Program and assess effectiveness of group activities.
  • Implement PACT resident surveys aimed at soliciting. Host community listening sessions, outreach members and conduct issue-based research to refine campaign context and direction.
  • Conduct regular outreach to build awareness of the project and to recruit for committees which will steer the project.
  • Identify and Develop member leaders through one-on-ones, Neighbors Together’s Leadership Development Training Series, membership meetings, and other forms of member engagement.
  • Network with other groups that are organizing childcare campaigns and health oriented projects and connect BronxWorks members to those campaigns.
  • Maintain updated statistics about member involvement in using an online database.
  • Collaborate with BronxWorks staff to provide holistic support to all members
  • Actively participate in organizational planning with BronxWorks staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of previous experience working as an administrator and developing community programs with low-income people.
  • Master’s degree required.
  • Social Work or Public Health background and/or prior experience working with people in public housing preferred.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to collaborate with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage diverse projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and self-motivation.
  • Positive, initiative-taking, and personable team player.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of collaborative team.
  • Comfort with social media and digital communication preferred.
  • Graphic design skills preferred.
  • Special interest in building power among low-income people of color to fight for social, economic, and racial justice.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
