GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manufacturing Engineer designs and implements systems, equipment and procedures used within manufacturing facilities. Their main duties will include continuous improvements as they relate to production processing, updating current system processes, and promoting Lean Engineering best practices. In addition, they will coordinate, and support tasks assigned to the engineering team by the Director of Engineering. Essential Functions

The Manufacturing Engineer designs and implements systems, equipment and procedures used within manufacturing facilities. Their main duties will include continuous improvements as they relate to production processing, updating current system processes, and promoting Lean Engineering best practices. In addition, they will coordinate, and support tasks assigned to the engineering team by the Director of Engineering. Essential Functions
- Drives continual process improvement with Lean manufacturing strategies and systems, such as Kaizen events, 5S, and other engineering tools to eliminate waste and improve efficiency using Toyota Production (TPS) methods.
- Utilize Value Stream Mapping to develop future optimization state. Assist production personnel with prototypes and quality concerns as well as redesign of the factory floor for most efficient process flow.
- Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods during RFQ (request for quote) process, and as continual improvement efforts dictate.
- Support department cost reduction and business plan initiatives including development of total cost business cases, action plans and launch of new equipment and/or processes.
- Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and advises for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Prepares production drawings and submittal drawings in CAD as well as develop and maintain BOM’s, routers, other supplier data requirements list documents.
- Assists the Sales Department with customer-related concerns. Technical support for sales/marketing as well as assisting with the costing of new products including tooling.
- Ensure material flow, material layouts, internal Route designs and workforce allocations are optimized as promoted within best practices in TPS.
- Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. Participates in Engineering Change Order reviews to assure the change does not adversely impact on process.
- Applies robust problem-solving methods, such as Six Sigma analysis in developing new products or addressing processing issues.
- A must demonstrate a strong background in a manufacturing environment utilizing Lean principles. Has planned and led numerous Kaizen events, 5S, and/or visual factory events.
- Strong experience in a mixed-model manufacturing environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication, presentation, and meeting skills
- Professional work experience reviewing and analyzing prototypes and product modifications.
- Project management skills – create and maintain open issue lists, lead cross functional teams, issue resolution, financial tracking and management of program fund spending and equipment procurement.
- Financial aptitude to develop total cost financial analysis, develop cost savings projects, track, and manage small and large projects.
- Solve problems at the lowest level with advanced understanding of strong problem-solving methods with the ability to employ Six Sigma methods and process.
- Preferred two to four years supervisory experience.
