Local Driver - Doubles

OVERVIEW

The primary role of this position is to haul fruit from grower locations to Peterson Farms Receiving and return fruit containers to growers for blueberry, cherry, and apple seasons.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

• Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner and follow all rules and regulations.
• Performs pre-trip inspections on vehicle and reports any problems to the onsite Ryder & PFI automotive mechanic and/or takes equipment to the shop for repairs.
• Ensure trucks are fueled.
• Responsible for keeping the truck and trailers clean and organized.
• Transport shipments of fruit from Traverse City area, Oceana County, and Coloma/Hartford area.
• Ensure load has the proper paperwork as to what is being transferred.
• Work closely with yard supervisor and other drivers on all product transfer needs.
• Safe and efficient operation of a heavy-haul tractor and Michigan Special tandem flat bed.
• Work weekends during peak season – could be plant transfers or heavy haul shipments of fruit.
• Must be able to throw bundled straps over shipment to secure load and torque straps so that shipment will not shift during transit.
• Must take direction from other heavy haul drivers and work as a team.
• Must be willing to work regular overtime during season.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Class A CDL required with doubles endorsement (tanker endorsement preferred as well)

Work Experience

• 2 years minimum driving experience
• 2 years preferred manufacturing environment experience

Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of DOT safety regulations and ability to follow them properly.
• Safely drive Commercial Motor Vehicles & comply with all speed limits and laws.
• Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions.
• Ability to follow and comply with quality standards.
• Ability to comprehend and comply with GMP rules and Food Safety guidelines.
• May be required to obtain and maintain valid hi-lo license.
• Ability to work as contributing member within the team.
• Ability to frequently lift/move material weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate a PC (keyboard/mouse).
