Job Description:Seeking a full-time, non-faculty staff member working primarily with the theatre department at The Owen Center on the Beebe campus of Arkansas State University-Beebe, while serving as a staff member for the Arts and Humanities division, and other duties as assigned.DESCRIPTION: The employee will assist in the operations of a theatre, constructions of sets, props, costumes, or scenery; operate and maintain lights and sound equipment, and provide work direction for students and volunteers. Employee will also assist the division of Arts and Humanities on related projects within the Owen Center.PURPOSE: The purpose of the position is to provide support for all shop builds, supervision of student crew and technical theater duties (including backstage operations), and coordinated production support for events in theatre, musical theatre, costume construction, Lecture-Concert Series, and others as needed. Must be student-focused and committed to collaborative production assignments and processes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from High School supplemented by course work in stagecraft, theatre production, or related field and two years’ experience assisting in lighting, sound, set construction or related set production areas.
PREFERRED: A minimum of an Associate’s degree in Theatre or Technical Theatre.TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:This employee should be proficient in at least three areas listed below:· Method of lighting, sound, and stagecraft/construction· Types and uses of lighting, sound, stage, and shop equipment· Basic Sewing Skills· Operations of a sewing machine· Application of stage makeup· Basic record-keeping techniques· Health and safety regulations
ADDITIONAL ABILITIES:· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships· Set up, operate and run lighting and sound equipment in campus facilities including computerized and manual boards and related equipment.· Construct, paint, flameproof and rig stage scenery and properties.· Operate and demonstrate proper use of stage and shop equipment including hand and power tools.· Maintain costumes including laundering, ironing, and pressing of clothing.· Maintain records and inventories. Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment.· Work cooperatively with others.· Work nights and weekends as needed.· Assist with sound, lighting and other areas of stage productions.· Assist with Front of House/Box office duties.
