We also have the area’s largest board-certified medical staff, which is made up of more than 1,000 primary care and specialty physicians. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast paced environment are a must. Position Summary:

The Autotransfusion Specialist functions as a member of Cardiac Perfusion Services. These team members are responsible for the safe implementation and operation of cell salvage equipment during surgical procedures known to experience significant blood loss. Cell salvage is the process by which blood from the surgical field  is collected, filtered, and washed to produce a high quality autologous blood product for re-infusion to the patient.   This helps preserve the patients native starting hematocrit and prevents unnecessary blood bank transfusions and the inherent risks and complications that can arise from donor blood. The Autotransfusionist chooses the appropriate equipment for each procedure, sets up and operates the cell salvage machine, and prepares the processed red blood cells for safe re-infusion to the patient. Other peri-operative blood management duties include processing platelet rich plasma and operating point of care coagulation monitoring devices. Standards of individual performance, skills, and clinical competence must be maintained according to hospital and department policies and procedures.
