Park Maitland School is seeking a dynamic and creative Design Thinking Teacher to join our team and inspire students in grades 3-5 to think critically, solve problems creatively, and innovate through design. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, a background in design, and experience working with elementary school-aged children.

Responsibilities:

  • Design Thinking Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive design thinking curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of students in grades 3-5.
    • Create engaging lesson plans, activities, and projects that foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
    • Incorporate real-world problems and challenges into the curriculum to promote meaningful learning experiences.
  • Instruction and Facilitation:
    • Deliver interactive and hands-on design thinking lessons that inspire curiosity and exploration.
    • Guide students through the design thinking process, including empathizing, defining problems, ideating, prototyping, and testing solutions.
    • Provide individualized support and feedback to students as they work on design projects.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected.
    • Set clear expectations for behavior and participation, and enforce classroom rules consistently.
    • Manage materials and resources effectively to support student learning and creativity.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Assess student progress and understanding through a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
    • Use data to inform instruction and make adjustments to the curriculum as needed.
    • Provide timely feedback to students on their design projects and growth as creative thinkers.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:
    • Collaborate with other teachersto integrate design thinking principles across the curriculum.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices in design education.
    • Actively contribute to the school community through involvement in committees, events, and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Design, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Teaching certification and/or relevant experience working with elementary school students.
  • Strong background in design thinking methodologies and principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a passion for innovation and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
