Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The School of Education is committed to advancing access to life’s opportunities by providing transformative learning, leading innovation and discovery, engaging communities, and promoting equity and diversity. This position is housed in the UNCG School of Education (SOE) Institute for Partnerships in Education. The Institute for Partnerships in Education (IPiE) provides the necessary infrastructure and leadership to facilitate and support long-term partnerships between the SOE and education-related agencies (e.g., school districts, libraries, community organizations, etc.) across North Carolina and beyond.

Position Summary:

The IPiE Instructional Coach will teach classes onsite in the SOE’s MAT program, provide administrative leadership and programmatic support for IPiE’s Licensure Pathways program, and directly support participating teachers in improving their instruction. They will be responsible for ensuring that participating teachers understand their role, develop effective practices for teaching, and when problems arise, help to mediate and resolve the problem. The Instructional Coach is also responsible for establishing a learning community among participating teachers, serving as the instructor for the program’s clinical experience and seminars, and supporting teachers in successfully completing all requirements for licensure. The Instructional Coach will serve as a broker, connecting the University faculty, district staff, and teachers. The person in this position is expected to use considerable judgment to perform work responsibilities. They must be able to work independently with limited direct supervision and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders including Institute leaders, faculty, staff, students, UNCG central office, and partner districts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree in Education or related field, ideally in Learning Sciences, Curriculum & Instruction, or Educational Leadership
  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching in K-12 schools
  • Record of effectiveness in supporting K-12 students’ learning
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate or doctoral candidate in teacher education, curriculum & instruction, learning sciences, educational leadership, or related field
  • Experience in coaching, teacher education, or supervision; expertise in working with adult learners.
  • Strong communication, organization, planning, and computer skills
  • Experience with edTPA and other requirments for licensure in North Carolina
  • Knowledge of university, partner district, and school’s cultures, policies, and operations
