Accessibility Resources Transitional Support Specialist

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Accessibility Resources Transitional Support Specialist in our Student Accessibility and Wellness department. The AccessibilityResources Transitional Support Specialist works closely with the Coordinator ofAccessibility Resources to coordinate and provide campus-wide assistivetechnology and other accommodative services and resources for students withlearning and other disabilities.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Reviews disability documentation to determine eligibility for services and to substantiate requests for reasonable accommodations that facilitate equal opportunities;
  • Works collaboratively with academic departments, counseling services, and other student support services to address the holistic needs of students with disabilities;
  • Provides training and supports to employees on accessibility best practices, including accessible design principles and assistive technologies;
  • Conducts intake interviews and assessments to understand the nature of disabilities, evaluates documentation, and determines appropriate accommodations based on individualized needs, including the interpreting of psycho-educational diagnostic assessments;
  • Provides transitional services for first time MVCC students as well as graduating students who transfer or enter the workforce;
  • Monitors student progress and modifies services and accommodations as appropriate;
  • Documents, maintains, and reviews accuracy pertaining to the confidential records of student accommodations to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations; Monitors and documents interactions, case notes, and progress of students with disabilities;
  • Stays current and provides assistance to students in accessing assistive technology and other available resources including addressing technical issues related to adaptive/assistive technology and coordinating with outside vendors as necessary;
  • Develops individualized learning strategies, implements skill-building programs, and administers accommodative testing as needed;
  • Orders, provides and creates (as needed), alternate format materials for students with print disabilities, and provides related training on the use of alternate format materials and required assistive technology;
  • Assists with the selection, training, and evaluation of testing assistants, readers, note-takers (students) and interpreting staff. Monitors quality of and receipt of classroom generated notes;
  • Performs other duties related to this job description and as assigned by the Coordinator of Accessibility Resources and the Director of Student Accessibility and Wellness.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree and three (3) years’ experience in special education, learning disabilities, or psychology
  • One (1) year of experience working in the field of learning disabilities
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of emerging assistive technologies
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
  • Experience interpreting diagnostic data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with minimum of one (1) year of experience working in the field of special education, learning disabilities or psychology
