A Category Merchandising Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping a retail company's product offerings and ultimately contributes to its financial success by managing and optimizing the product assortment within specific product categories. This role involves a combination of data analysis, market research, and strategic planning to drive sales and profitability for the company. Category Merchandising Managers collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the right products are in the right place at the right time.
This position requires a blend of analytical thinking, creativity, and business acumen to drive the category's growth and profitability.

Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze market trends, consumer preferences, and sales data to determine the product assortment for assigned categories.
- Select and curate products within the category, considering factors such as pricing, brand, quality, and consumer demand.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels, ensuring stock availability while minimizing overstock or understock situations.
- Collaborate with pricing teams to establish competitive pricing strategies that maximize profitability and align with market conditions.
- Work closely with marketing teams to develop and execute promotional campaigns, including discounts, seasonal sales, and product launches.
- Work closely with the purchasing team to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms and conditions to secure the best products for the category.
- Monitor category performance, analyze sales data, and identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Stay updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging market dynamics to make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, purchasing, and operations, to ensure seamless execution of category strategies.
- Prepare and present regular reports on category performance, including sales, margin, and inventory metrics, to senior management.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in business, merchandising, marketing, or a related field.
- Proven experience in retail merchandising or category management.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in using merchandising software and tools.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for product selection.
