Teche Action Clinic, A Federally Qualified Health Center, per Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) position based at our Franklin, Louisiana clinic. Services are delivered face-to-face and by interactive, technology-assisted teletherapy.


JOB SUMMARY:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide comprehensive mental health care to
the child, adolescent and adult populations for general mental health and psychiatric concerns in a rural
health clinic system. The PMHNP will provide diagnostic care and treatment and focus on psychiatric/mental
health maintenance and wellness. Practitioners shall use both pharmacological and therapeutic interventions
in treatment plans to help patients.


The PMHNP will act as an integral member of the overall team of medical and mental health professionals
while adhering to the policies and procedures of the clinic. The PMHNP will set an example of compassionate
care while implementing treatment options utilizing various modalities. The PMHNP will be responsible for
educational and administrative tasks as assigned.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages and genders;
exercise individual initiative and independent actions to ensure high quality psychiatric and mental health
care; work as an integral member of the psychiatric care team in collaboration with the primary care team,
which includes careful attention to customer service, population management, appropriate delegation and
participation in the quality initiatives of the health center; collaborate with other providers involved in client
care, including medical providers, social agencies, hospitals, schools, etc.; provide psychiatric consultation,
psychopharmacological evaluation and management; provide client and family education; intervene with
care delivery system flaws by identifying issues and participating in policy-making, implementation, or
modification; ability to treat patients child through adult.


Assess needs of patients and personal support systems; build relationships with patients and advocate for
their needs; develop and coordinate treatment plans for all patients; monitor patients to assess the efficacy
of the treatment plan; maintain accurate and timely records; maintain thorough knowledge of referral
resources; collect data about patients through interview, case history, risk assessments, and/or observational
techniques; evaluate data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper approaches or referral to
other specialists; consult with other related professional and paraprofessional staff, as appropriate, in the
performance of client care; refer clients to appropriate service agencies as required; improve the
effectiveness of communication among caregivers; use only standardized abbreviations, acronyms and
symbols that are used throughout the organization; reduce the risk of healthcare acquired infections; comply
with hand hygiene guidelines


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
• Licensed RN in Louisiana
• Possess and maintain Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Louisiana which
must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active.
• Maintain Prescriptive Authority in Louisiana
• Maintain Drug Enforcement Administration Registration
• Meet CME/CEU requirements necessary for license renewal in Louisiana
• Minimum of one-year clinical experience as a PMHNP required


Communication Ability:
• Proficient in the English language, both in writing and speaking to be able to communicate clearly
with all stakeholders, including patients, families, clinic staff and other healthcare professionals
• Ability to effectively use verbal and written communication to share psychiatric and psychosocial
information
• Highly developed active listening, clarification, and effective questioning skills
• Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, and other parties


Math Skills:
• Basic math skills; metric System Conversions; drug Dosage Calculations; mathematical and
statistical skills to understand the statistical concepts that support psychological research; read
and interpret research articles, including interpreting tables, graphs, and statistical analyses


Reasoning Ability:
• Possess strong reasoning and thinking skills
• Possess highly developed skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and
decision-making to achieve organizational objectives
• Possess highly developed skill in analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action
• Critical thinking skills when making diagnoses and developing treatment plans; keep up to date
on research trends; advanced knowledge of psychiatric medications
• Possess highly developed skill in exercising judgment and discretion in developing, applying,
interpreting, and coordinating clinic policies and procedures


Computer Skills:
• Possess strong computer skills, including working with word processing and data entering
applications, as well as with medical software applications
• Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the
Internet
• Education/training or work experience in computer basics and data entry, output, and reporting
• Intermediate proficiency in the use of basic office/computer software (i.e., computer, Microsoft,
email, fax machine, printer, telephone/voicemail, etc.)

• Technology competence: EHR/PM systems, email, smartphone

• Highly knowledgeable with DSM diagnosis and ICD coding

Eligibility Requirements:
