Summary

Position will be responsible for processing payroll for the staff in the various entities, assisting with daily operations within the finance department through direct participation in business processes. The position will work with the team in establishing, documenting, and maintaining procedures and control processes for payroll.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities:

Payroll Administration

  • This is a Part- time fully remote position but applicant MUST live in North Carolina.
  • Maintain payroll information using Third Party software to process all payrolls and prepare required reports in a timely manner.
  • Generate reports that include summaries of earnings, tax deductions, etc and ensure data is accurately reported.
  • In depth knowledge of payroll tax reporting and requirements, and state and federal payroll regulations.
  • Understanding of the calculations behind payroll liabilities, including federal and state income and social security tax, etc to ensure calculations are accurately reported.
  • Resolving payroll discrepancies and answering any employee payroll queries.
  • Maintaining all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure correct preparation of W-2 forms annually and prepare adjustments/corrections if needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing the accuracy of the payroll journal entry from the payroll system.
  • Review and reconcile monthly benefit invoices and statements.
  • Reconciles accounting system for annual leave accrual plans for year-end audit.
  • Work closely with Human Resources staff to resolve payroll issues.
  • Reconcile monthly benefit accounts at the end of each month as needed.
  • Provide customer service to all employees regarding applicable payroll procedures and methods; interpret and explain rules and regulations; answer questions and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Always maintain strict confidentiality and exhibit discretion.

Department Management

  • Maintains appropriate internal controls and efficient financial procedures.
  • Perform additional procedures as requested to support the annual audit process.

Other Financial Responsibilities

  • Comply with Accounting and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Report all out-of-compliance or unsafe activities to supervisor.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Payroll capacity in North Carolina preferred.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, some college or technical training required.
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice for payroll in job situations.
  • Must be highly organized, professional, with good decision-making skills, and be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to successfully navigate office technology and computer systems related to the job functions as well as possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office including: Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of confidence and professionalism.
  • Must be culturally sensitive to children and families and support cultural diversity throughout the program.
  • Must have a valid North Carolina’s Driver’s license and able to travel throughout our service area.
  • Must submit to and pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal, HCPR and driving checks.
