Young Adult Advocate/Case Manager

Schedule: Determined on a case by case basis; Some on-call hours

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for advocating on behalf of young adults ages 18-24 that are experiencing homelessness and/or victimization, reports progress and concerns to Next Step Program Coordinator. Oversees residents and responds to questions and concerns. Provides transportation when required and requested by the Program Director.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Collaborates with the Courts, Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Legal Services, Hospitals, Safer Futures, and other Social Service Agencies toward the minimization of victimization.

2. Collaborates with Jobs and Family Services, Metropolitan Housing Authorities and other Social Service Agencies towards addressing issues of homelessness.

3. Completes client intakes and establishes a services plan in collaboration with resident, coordinate plan by providing advocacy and supportive services and evaluating progress.

4. Accepts referrals from area Criminal Justice Providers to interact with victims of violent crime, and then conducts professional and confidential intakes and assessments, including Civil Protection Order assistance.

5. May meet with clients at a safe location for early crisis intervention and discussion of the clients options

6. Oversees the attendance of court hearings with legal advocacy clients to explain procedures and support decisions.

7. Arraignments, preliminary hearings, pre-trials, trials, and sentencing in Criminal court.

8. Ex-parte hearings and Full-hearings to help client to obtain a Civil Protection order in Domestic Relations Court

9. May also aid in the preparation of Victim Impact Statements.

10. Provides follow-up with client and service providers as needed.

11. Reports to Advisory Board/supervisor monthly to give and receive input about the position.

12. Models awareness and behavior needed for growth and development.

13. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements and educational/certification/registry requirements.

14. Fulfills other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Knowledge of Client centered model of crisis intervention skills, and ability to teach crisis intervention.

2. Ability to model open communication and work in team structure.

3. Understanding of homelessness and victimization.

4. Experience working with young adults.

5. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.

6. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).


MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: CPR/First Aid Certification.


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience in crisis intervention preferred.
