Purpose / General Description: Mechanic is responsible for performing effective troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair on a variety of fleet equipment at the shop or at remote locations. Mechanic is also responsible for moving trucks around the shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform timely service and repairs on fleet equipment: Troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair on engines (diesel and gas), fuel systems, emissions, instrumentation systems, braking systems, steering and suspension, drive-line systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical / electronic, etc. Operate and maintain tools and equipment necessary for completing tasks in a safe and productive manner.
  • Perform inspection and confirmation activities: Inspect vehicles to manufacturers and DOT standards, document findings and submit vehicle condition reports. Road test to ensure that all repairs have been successfully completed and all safety measures restored.
  • Maintain accurate and timely recordkeeping: Work orders, inspection logs
  • Perform area maintenance activities: Inspect, maintain, and clean tools and equipment and personnel facilities.
  • Be an effective team member: Always wear PPE and work safely, be an example of good behavior. Follow all work processes and policies. Work cooperatively with co-workers. Productively manage working hours and work schedules to support customer requirements.
Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED (Certification in diesel technology or other specialty is a plus)
  • Valid NC Driver License, clean driving record, and have reliable transportation to work
  • Be willing to complete training for CDL Licensing (training provided by company)
  • Able to lift (up to 75lbs.), and be physically fit to perform tasks and operate equipment
  • Work independently and diligently with minimal directions, to complete tasks on schedule
  • Communicate well with team members and supervision in English and use computers
  • Apply creativity to solve problems and contribute to the success of the team.
  • 3+ years experience as diesel/heavy equipment mechanic OR 10+ years experience as an automotive mechanic

Employees must possess the ability to perform the essential job functions successfully and safely within the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Employees must maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. Employees are required to climb, kneel and bend to operate and perform tasks. Prolonged periods of standing and walking are an essential function of the job.

Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time.
