We are looking for a Trauma Registrar to join our Trauma Department team here at Samaritan Healthcare! Under the general direction of the Trauma Program Coordinator, performs a variety of duties essential to maintaining the Trauma Registry as mandated by the Department of Health. Responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the Trauma Registry by coding and abstracting the clinical and demographic data from patient records. The Trauma Registrar displays the ability to work independently and with the team. They assume accountability for all work performed. The individual in this position reports to the Trauma Program Coordinator and Nursing Director of Emergency Services. This position works independently to collect and retain data collection concerning trauma patients. This is a full-time remote position working Monday-Friday from hours of 8:00am-4:30pm.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategy of Samaritan Healthcare, personifying service and operational excellence.

Specific Accountabilities:

  1. Maintains the Trauma Register on all trauma patients. Assures accuracy and timely completion of records within two weeks of discharge/transfer.
  2. Responsible for collecting, entering, scoring, coding, and data validation processes related to the Washington State Trauma Registry.
  3. Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives as directed
  4. Participates in establishing Injury Severity Scoring (ISS) for all trauma patients for securing state appropriated funds for trauma care reimbursement.
  5. Assists in identifying and documenting patient charges and securing state appropriated funds for trauma care reimbursement.
  6. Assists with maintaining trauma patient log(s).
  7. Assists with Trauma Services education & workshops
  8. Assist with staff education related to and not limited to mock drills, hands on equipment education
  9. Attends required registry courses and meetings.
  10. Attends and reports in Trauma Committee and ED staff meetings as needed
  11. Participates in Department, Organization, and State development activities as directed.
  12. Performs additional assigned duties in the absence of the Trauma Program Coordinator as directed by the Director of Emergency Services
  13. Organizes and prioritize workload to complete assignments during the shift.
  14. Maintains confidentiality of records or medical center information at all times.
  15. Works closely with local EMS agencies for improved trauma care and follow-up

Education:

  1. Medical terminology or equivalent education/experience
  2. AIS certification to be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  3. Human Anatomy or equivalent education/experience

Experience:

  1. 1 year healthcare or related setting
  2. 1 year medical record abstracting and/or coding

Licenses and Certifications:

  1. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) certification-preferred
  2. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)- preferred – American Health Information Management Association (or similar coding certification)

Physical Requirements:

  1. Occasional climbing and crawling/kneeling.
  2. Ability to lift /carry up to 25 lbs.
  3. Frequent walking, sitting/standing, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying, bending/stooping/crouching, twisting/turning and repetitive movement.
  4. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
