POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of the Rail Clerk is to be responsible for various scheduling tasks associated with trucks & rail to ensure timely volume delivery to customers. The role is primarily responsible to work as a liaison between the Operations field office and the NGL Marketing group to plan, place, and coordinate schedule production facilities within proper DOT rules & regulations. The Clerk will be held responsible for coordinating production and operational changes at the facility with the corporate NGL Marketing scheduling plan. The role will include working closely with company personal, including plant operators, loaders, quality testers, marketers, and other clerks. In addition, the Rail Clerk will interact with third-party contacts to facilitate efficient product movement.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for scheduling tasks associated with rail and trucks to ensure timely volume delivery to customers.
  • Serves as primary contact for all scheduling-related matters. Communicates and collaborates internally with plant operators, loaders, quality testers, marketers, and other schedulers, and eternally with third parties to facilitate efficient product movement.
  • Ensures billing adheres to Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations.
  • Administers bill of lading (BOL) and waybills as they relate to shipping.
  • Coordinates production and operational changes and resolves issues related to rail and truck operations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must hold a valid Driver License with excellent driving record
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Rail Operations: Develops knowledge of railroad yard and terminal physical configurations such as, length of siding, location of signals and switches, terminal trackage. Develops knowledge of rail tank cars used to transport gaseous commodities and becomes familiar with railyard communication protocols and safety practices.
  • Reading Comprehension: Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Safety: Applies in difficult or complex situations ability to recognize safety risks in operational activities and use appropriate measures to control and manage identified risks.
  • Safety Awareness: Ability to recognize and identify potential hazards. Evaluates changes in work environment with respect to impact on safety of self and others. Understands potential threats created by deviation from safety procedures and improper use of tools and equipment. Uses personal protection equipment. Uses tools and equipment in compliance with manuals and training. Calls attention to potential and actual hazardous conditions as they arise. Demonstrates knowledge of lockout/tag out procedures. Stops work if there are unsafe working conditions.
  • Time Management: Demonstrates with minimal guidance ability to Manage one's own time and the time of others.
  • Transportation: Develops knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the benefits.
