DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves carrying out a range of entry-level technical tasks within the Department of Transportation (PennDOT), encompassing design, construction, and maintenance. You will provide engineering support to various PENNDOT units and develop a fundamental understanding of departmental policies, procedures, organizational responsibilities, and workflow. To achieve the overall training objective, you will undergo a structured training program that includes rotational work assignments in engineering districts, allowing you to become familiar with district personnel and procedures and participate in work projects. Additionally, this role will receive classroom training as directed by the program coordinator. All work will be closely monitored and reviewed for completeness, technical accuracy, and the appropriateness of the approach.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing technical tasks related to drafting. This will involve preparing highway plans based on field survey notes, designing minor highway projects from initial engineering stages to final plan preparation, and completing minor design assignments with guidance from a civil engineer, highway designer, or highway drafter designer. The work will be carried out using the Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software program, ensuring efficient and accurate completion of tasks.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successfully completing the probationary period and training program. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
