About this job

Provides rehab therapy to hospital patients under the direction of a qualified physician.
Performs clinical responsibilities no less than 50% of the time the remaining time is spent attending to administrative responsibilities listed hereafter which pertain to the coordination of activities within the department.
Oversees the critical and non-clinical staff of the department.
Ensures that patient care activities within the unit run smoothly and billing for services is accurate and appropriate.
Makes daily staff assignments during he morning briefing and actively participates in the implementation and oversight of the departments safety initiatives.
Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
Provides orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in their department.
Assesses and improves their department's performance and maintains appropriate quality control programs.
Functions in other areas critical to the successful operation of the department such as hiring of staff, checking and maintaining staff competencies, staff development, conducting monthly departmental staff meetings, staff performance evaluations, conflict management and resolution for patients and staff, departmental payroll, incident report-management and productivity levels.

Evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment at various stages and adjust the treatments to achieve maximum benefit for the patient.

Reviews patient care consults and evaluates appropriateness of the orders/instructions.

Maintains patient records.

Promotes and provides education

Communicates with members of the rehab staff and maintains records

Answers and directs calls

Demonstrates interest in department's and self-improvement

Demonstrates understanding of role in healthcare team

Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately to patients, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent - Required

Doctoral degree - Preferred

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Required Licenses[West Virginia, United States] Other
Must possess licensure to practice physical therapy in state of WV and must be maintained in good standing.

Minimum Work Experience

Experience as a staff physical therapist in the acute care or sub acute care settings for at least 3 years. Current CPR certification required.
