Job Summary

Performs mammography procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital, 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

 

Essential Functions

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. May assist physician with performing interventional procedures including fine needle aspiration and needle localization.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Participates in ensuring compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations and applicable accreditations.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s), biopsies, stereotactic and special procedures. Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits, and reports scan results.
  • Keeps current with BiRad and follow-ups on all patients.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to see colors, see at least 1 mm squares.
  • Ability to reach overhead.
  • Ability to remain calm, continue to function effectively and develop priorities during highly stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using written and verbal media.
  • Ability to move and operate equipment and carry supplies

Physical Environment:

  • Potential exposure to patients who may be physically or verbally abusive.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.
  • This position may require the use of personal protective equipment during several patient and equipment related activities.
  • Occasionally exposed to noise and unpleasant odors. Often works long hours, participates in the call schedule which requires working during the evening and night hours as required

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Must be registered by the ARRT
  • Registry in all specialty fields is required within one year of practicing full time in that field
