Short Description

PGY2 pharmacy residency builds on Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. Provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

 

Provide comprehensive medication management to patients following a consistent patient care process.

Ensure continuity of care during transitions between care settings.

Manage and facilitate delivery of medications.

Demonstrate ability to manage formulary and medication use processes.

Demonstrate ability to conduct a quality improvement or research project to improve patient care or for advancing the pharmacy profession.

Demonstrate leadership skills for successful self-development in the provision of patient care.

Demonstrate management skills in the provision of patient care.

Provide effective medication and practice related education to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, students, and the public.

Effectively employ appropriate preceptor roles when engaged in teaching students, pharmacy technicians, or fellow health care professionals.

When working in Emergency Medicine: Participate in and exercise leadership in the management of medical emergencies.


Education Requirements

Doctorate Degree Required

 

ASHP Accredited PGY1 residency required.   A copy of the PGY1 residency certificate to be presented to the residency program director by July 5 of the appointed year.


License/Certification Requirements

New Jersey Pharmacy Licensure (or eligible for licensure within 30 days)

Postgraduate year (PGY-1) residency from an accredited ASHP residency
