POSITION TITLE: Pharmacy Technician 

DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy 

NATURE OF POSITION: 

  • To provide technical support of the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school graduate 

  • Technical training or equivalent experience in a pharmacy 

  • Technician permit from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 

CLASSIFICATION:  Non-exempt 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Pharmacy Director/Pharmacist on duty 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with physicians, co-workers, patients and the public. 

  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers. 

  • Uphold and abide by patient confidentiality policies and procedures. 

  • Actively participate in agency-sponsored staff training events (Safety instruction, evacuation drills, OSHA training, etc.) 

  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to organizational needs and demonstrates a positive attitude. 

  • Enter data from a physician’s orders into a computer. 

  • Prepare dosage units for pharmacist review from prescriber’s orders, which may include oral and topical medications. 

  • Label medications after preparation including appropriate accessory labels as well as expiration date and lot number when applicable. 

  • Ensure that all medication preparation activities are verified by pharmacist. 

  • Check for expired medications. 

  • Stocking of supplies. 

  • Customer service, telephone etiquette, giving name, title, and department. 

  • Filing of Rx records. 

  • Maintains professional appearance and follows established dress code. 

  • Performs other duties incidental to the work described herein. 

  • ORGANIZATION: 

  • Abstains from gossip in the workplace. 

  • Exhibits enthusiasm, a positive attitude and professionalism in the workplace. 

  • Handles personal conflict and works through it at the lowest possible level (first with party/parties involved, then if necessary, with 3rd party mediation).

  • Is neat, clean, and well-groomed and dresses in accordance to the dress code policy. 

  • Leaves personal problems out of workplace. 

  • Treats all co-workers with dignity and respect. 

  • Arrives on time and works through designated hours. 

  • Completes tasks effectively, accurately and on time. 

  • Demonstrates little or no absenteeism/follows leave guidelines. 

  • Follows designated chain of authority. 

  • Is flexible, able and willing to respond to unusual job-related demands. 

  • Manages time well. 

  • Recognizes and assists others in the work of the department, even though the work may be outside of regular duties. 

  • Shares equally in the workload of the department. 

  • Works cooperatively with all team members and departments. 

  • Works independently requesting assistance from supervisor only as needed. 

  • Abstains from criticizing COFMC, colleagues and supervisors.
