Job Description:\n\nDescription: The Mental Health Clinician is assigned to work within a specific specialty population, i.e. adults with Severe Mental Illness (SMI), children and youth with Severe Emotional Disturbances (SED) or adult or children clients with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), and individuals who have Substance Use Disorders and/or a serious mental illness with co-occurring substance disorder. Mental Health Clinician is a professional position responsible in providing an array of; best practice models of clinical treatments, which include comprehensive and ongoing assessment, intensive therapy, clinically appropriate intervention techniques including individual and group therapies, case consultation and coordination. The mental health clinician facilitates the person-centered process for treatment planning as well as facilitation of therapeutic and psychoeducational groups. Mental Health Clinicians will develop and understanding of Trauma Informed Care and apply treatment and practice in a manner supporting trauma informed care. The Clinician works under the assigned program Supervisor. CWN recognizes all person’s vulnerabilities to trauma, and traumatic experiences and that impact on daily living. It is our practice to use practice models suitable to our job that are evidence based or sound practices that support our daily functions, models of treatment, and strength-based initiatives and outcomes. As a member of the CWN team staff will provide support throughout the agency, develop leadership skills, complete their tasks with efficiency and effectiveness and accept that all practices adhere to a recovery-based practice, providing the supports and guidance to empower, and promote recovery in clients and peers. CWN strives for collaborative relationships within the community, working with others in a professional, respectful, and positive manner that enhances a culture of creativity and support. Position Specific – Duties and Responsibilites Job Specific: · Staff must possess computer, typing, grammar, punctuation, proofreading, transcription, phone proficiencies and excellent communication and customer relations skills to effectively interact with staff, customers, business partners and community stakeholders. · Effective time management in order to attend to numerous responsibilities and tasks that need addressing. · Coordinates quality person centered planning with clients (adult and/or children) that supports a system that incorporates his/her strengths and abilities · Provides therapeutic interventions designed to stabilize, improve functioning and help individuals/families to obtain and maintain recovery from severe and persistent mental illness, serious emotional disorders, addiction, co-occurring medical health complications, and co-occurring disorders. · Provides outreach services and supports to the client as needed and appropriate. · Must become proficient in and/or applying best practice model of treatment interventions to individuals with SUD and/or co-occurring disorders. · Develops, implements and facilitates group sessions using best practice models designed to assist in the recovery process of individuals served, as assigned. · Completes screenings and assessments for the purpose of assuring medical necessity and determining the appropriate level of care. · Provides timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record that includes amount, scope and duration of services provided in accordance with the person-centered plan. · Complies with all CWN and MAPS policies, For CWN: DCH, CARF, and Medicaid criteria for clinical documentation for all aspects of the medical record including, but not limited to, intake assessments, person-centered plans, plan reviews, releases of information, progress/activity notes, annual psycho-social assessments and discharge summaries. · Promotes recovery and empowers clients in their ability to make positive life choices while promoting good mental and physical health. · Oversees the development, training and distribution of prevention and wellness information and initiatives. · May participate in managing crisis situations as needed/assigned. · Participates in meetings and trainings as requested to maintain or improve proficiency · Participates and contributes to the clinical and educational team and organization by accomplishing assigned results as needed · Performs duties and responsibilities in ways that promote goodwill, build positive relationships · Attends required meetings with clients and others to assure communication and consistency in treatment by all members of the client’s treatment team · Maintains and compiles information and data to produce and report on program outcomes as assigned · Complies with all policies and procedures of the agency and actively participates in the mission and vison of CWN and practices using sensitivity to race, ethnicity and culture as well as trauma informed practices. · Completes all tasks and assignments assigned by their direct supervisor as needed · Preserve human dignity and contribute positively to the CWN and MAPS service organization · Ensures compliance, within Clinical Services Program, with all applicable laws and regulations. · Coordinates quality person centered planning for children and their support system that incorporates his/her strengths Population Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Children and Youth · completion of 24 hours of training each fiscal year that focus on issues that are specific to children and adolescents for those case managers assigned to the Children’s Diagnostic Services Team. · Follows Medicaid guidelines providing interventions with enrolled families a minimum of four hours monthly unless documented otherwise. · Completion or Certification in CAFAS and P-CAFAS screenings (as required) · Training and education in the developmental stages for children · Must be able to complete qualification standards for C-MHP outlined in the Medicaid Manual · Trained in or ability to complete training on trauma informed care and ACES · Must be able to complete and demonstrate competency in best practice models of treatment identified and supported by CWN’s clinical division Adults/Parents · Apply best practice models of Individual, family and group therapies designed to assist in the recovery process of individuals served and assigned · Must have knowledge or complete training in the impact of SPMI on family systems and with physical health · Training or ability to complete training in trauma informed care · Must be able to complete and demonstrate competency in best practice models of treatment identified and supported by CWN’s clinical division Organizational Wide-Duties and Responsibilities: · Customer Services: Treats customers and co-workers with dignity and respect. Understand or develop an understanding of prevention services · Individuals assigned to this specialty population should have knowledge regarding the growth and development of children and youth and its relation to understanding the range of treatment, care and services needed by clients in this specialty area. · Experience in motivational interviewing and skills for client engagement along with other interventions, screenings and treatments used in behavioral health and substance use disorders, including understanding of Stages of Change by Sharon Meinick, MD General Position Competencies: · Understanding and/or ability to learn the impact of trauma on persons lives and their recovery path for children through elderly adults · Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively. · Ability to meet at times and locations chosen by the client, guardian or other important persons involved in the client’s care and recovery plan · Possess or acquire ability to use computers in a clinical setting (or a non-clinical setting such as in the community or at a consumer’s home). · Process skills in crisis management preferred · Understanding of the impact of SUD and treatment and management for Co-Occurring disorders · Understanding of the impact of chronic health conditions and treatment as well as impact on mental health issues. · Effective problem-solving skills · Basic reading and arithmetic skills are required. · Excellent customer service skills are required. · Ability to work efficiently providing quality services in a variety of settings in the community. (i.e Primary Care, Hospital, School, Homes) · Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required. · The ability to demonstrate absolute discretion with confidential information is required. · Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) is highly desirable. · Experience using office equipment (including, but not limited to, desktop telephone, computer, copier, fax machine, scanner, laser printer, and desktop calculator) · Ability to multi-task daily and to use prioritization skills · Skills in development of treatment, educational and supportive groups · Provide ongoing education and resources to other team members regarding the impact of ACES, Illness and poverty on learning. Qualifications, Skills, and ConditionsRequirements: Qualifications, Skills, and Conditions Knowledge, Education and Training (licenses, programs, or certificates): · Must be a Master Level Clinician in the field of Social Work, Counseling, Child and Family Therapies or other related field of practice applicable to the treatment of Behavioral health and SUD, and a combination of education and experience which results in the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions · Full licensure by the State of Michigan within the profession is preferred, Limited Licensure considered · Certification as CAADC (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor), or have made application or be willing to make application and work toward completion of requirements outlined by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals if needed. · Training and education in Substance Use Disorders, Behavioral Health and Co-occurring disorders. · Training and/or knowledge of the impact of SUD and mental illness on physical health. · Experience in motivational interviewing and skills for client engagement along with other interventions, screenings and treatments used in behavioral health and substance use disorders, including understanding of Stages of Change by Sharon Melnick, MD. · Training in person centered planning, trauma informed care, best practice models of therapy and group process or ability to learn in these specific areas. · Must be a Child Mental Health Professional (CMPH) or qualify for CMPH as defined by Michigan Department of Community Health – for Children and youth or Mental Health Professional as defined by MI Department of Community Health – for Adults · Skills in computer, typing, grammar, punctuation, proofreading, transcription, phone proficiencies and excellent communication and customer relations skills to effectively interact with staff, clients, business partners and community stakehold
