Summary

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.


We are currently seeking Prep Crew Laborers to continuously travel between our projects in Charlotte, NC, Raleigh, NC, Nashville, TN, and future locations. This individual will be responsible for designing and building forms, placing reinforcing steel, and preparing for slip-form concrete paving operations.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and prepare construction and paving areas.
  • Build and place forms. 
  • Tie rebar and place stabilizing steel bars. 
  • Shovel and rake dirt, gravel, and concrete. 
  • Read plans, instructions, and specifications to execute work.
  • Load, unload, or identify construction materials, machinery, and tools.
  • Distribute materials to the appropriate job site locations, according to project plans or specifications.
  • Use hand and power tools, as necessary, to complete tasks.
  • Direct vehicle traffic and signal equipment operators, as needed.
  • Operate equipment such as backhoes, skid steer loaders, and any other equipment an employee is able to operate. 
  • Communicate effectively with other laborers, machine operators, and site management.
  • Observe safe work practices and all safety protocols and instructions.
  • Other tasks and duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Construction-site labor experience, preferred.
  • Heavy or highway construction experience, preferred.
  • If you have a Union affiliation, please indicate on your application (personal summary and application question).
  • Must be able to travel overnight to job sites up to 100% of the time. 
  • Ability to gain clearance in restricted/high-security zones. (Airport AOA, Military Bases, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • Physical capabilities required are climbing, lifting, carrying a minimum of 75 lbs., standing, sitting, walking, entering confined spaces, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and performing repetitive actions.
