POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the Director of Dental Services and the Dental Manager, performs chairside work assisting a dentist in the treatment of patients; maintains records of treatments, supplies, and materials; performs related work as required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with immediate supervisor and clinic providers to establish, define, and refine department goals and objectives consistent with Aviva Health’s Mission and demonstrates satisfactory progress towards these goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a strong belief in Aviva Health’s philosophy, purpose, mission, and ideals.
  • Demonstrates Aviva Health’s values and approaches all tasks with Aviva Health’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Customer Service statements as guidelines.   • Promotes positive customer relations and service to both internal and external customers by providing comprehensive dental services to all patients in a non-discriminatory, confidential, professional, friendly manner that builds dignity for each individual customer. Respond to co-workers needs and requests in a respectful, friendly, and prompt manner.
  • Demonstrates respect and sensitivity to cultural/social differences in interactions with others.
  • Communicates in an easy to understand, friendly, and professional manner; ensures understanding; provides additional information as needed.
  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills using sound judgement. Assumes additional responsibilities as needed, with little or no direction, shows initiative in assisting others within the department.
  • Complies with Aviva Health’s attendance and tardiness policies.
  • Implements departmental policies and educates staff and patients regarding the implications of the same.
  • Sterilizes dental instruments and equipment by providing back up coverage for sterilization tech as needed. Oils and cleans equipment; cleans dental office and operatory.
  • Maintains proper infection control procedures; wears required personal protection equipment as per OSHA standards.
  • Prepares patients for treatment by seating, taking blood pressures, and reviewing medical history; presents and witnesses signatures on all appropriate consent forms.
  • Reviews patient chart and ensures all paperwork, x-rays and treatment are current.
  • Performs routine laboratory work such as pouring and trimming working models; packaging and shipping models to appropriate lab; receives and organizes lab cases/slips as they are delivered.
  • Keeps current with software specific for electronic dental records, provides accurate documentation by charting each patient’s oral health, treatment plan, and chart notes; ensures that consent forms are signed by all persons required, report any missing information in chart to supervisor or appropriate staff member.
  • Prepares operatories for dental procedure: assists chairside by handing various instruments and supplies to dentist.
  • Attends in-service and other required meetings.
  • Must have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to maintain and interpret various records relating to patient care and dental services.
  • Set priorities in patient care with regard to time and result.
  • Must be able to maintain a sympathetic and harmonious relationship with patients.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
