We are a locally owned commercial real estate investment company that owns, manages, and leases 5 million square feet of residential, retail, office, and industrial property throughout Lincoln, Nebraska. Our diverse portfolio of real estate gives us the flexibility to work together with tenants to achieve their goals and help them succeed. We are seeking a seasoned accounting professional to join our accounting team as an Accounting Associate.

Job overview

 

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting all accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, preparing and reconciling accounting records and other financial tasks for Speedway Properties. This position is also responsible for verifying the accuracy of invoices and maintaining journals, ledgers, and other business transactions.

 

Here are the specifics:

 

  • Complete a variety of general accounting support tasks and reports in the department.
  • Process all invoices and statements for all legal entities operated and managed by Speedway Properties. Make sure invoices are coded to the appropriate ledger accounts and locations and all requirements are followed for payment.
  • Process and accurately record deposits received into tenant ledgers and the general ledger.
  • Assist Accounting Manager with accounting processes as needed.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns. Making sure all guidelines are followed for all legal entities.
  • Communicate in a professional manner.
  • Constantly work to improve processes; make suggestions for productivity improvements, and optimize employee workflow, while continuing to meet our customers’ needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

 

  • Ability to rarely lift and carry <25 lbs. and rarely push/pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Constant sitting.
  • Occasional standing and/or walking.
  • Rare bending/reaching, twisting.
  • Frequent pinching, grasping, fine manipulation with fingers to use computer, keyboard, and phone.
  • Heated and air-conditioned indoor work.

  

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of one year of related experience required OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written with all levels of the organization, vendors, and other internal and external individuals.
  • Requires knowledge of basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Must have basic Microsoft Office knowledge and proficient in Excel.
  • Able to work independently as well as effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills required.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
