SCOPE OF POSITION: ***POSITION WILL WORK IN LAWTON***

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the preparation of financial statements and assisting with other Accounting Department duties. Guidelines and requirements are abundant in the practice of accounting and even more so in gaming. These guidelines and requirements include GAAP, gaming laws and regulations, the Operations Manual, and policies and procedures. Duties at this level of organization involve many steps, processes, and methods and the Staff Accountant must have the skill and ability to make decisions that require the recognition of differences in situations (e.g., data source, factual information, type of transaction or entry). The Staff Accountant’s service and work product have a substantial impact on operations, management, and its success.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are major duties and are not intended to be all inclusive or restrictive.

  • Performs all functions in accordance with applicable laws and gaming regulations, and established policies, procedures, and controls, and the mission statement and objectives.
  • Exercises judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate and applicable guidelines, references, and procedures and, if several alternatives are available, determines which is the most appropriate for the situation.
  • Interprets and records business transactions.
    • Processes daily inputs (revenues, commissions, cash transactions, etc.) to the General Ledger from a variety of sources.
    • Ensures transactions are correct and adequately documented and recorded.
  • Assists with daily review of audit findings for consistent problems, corrections, and breaches of internal controls.
  • Responsible for timely, accurate financial reporting.
    • Prepares financial statements and gathers and prepares supporting schedules and/or documents required by applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Ensures accuracy through reconciliation of General Ledger accounts, bank statements, etc.
  • Performs month-end closing activities.
    • Records all transactions required to accurately represent the entity’s financial position at the end of the period. Such transactions may include accruals for matching of expenses to the current period, relief of prepaid expenses used during the period, recognition of unearned revenues received or earned during the period, recording of asset acquisitions, disposals and depreciation, etc.
    • Reconciles bank statements and Balance Sheet accounts, including the reconciliation of cash in ATMs, kiosks, and CDMs.
  • Responds to questions and requests timely, accurately, and completely.
  • Provides excellent customer service by being friendly and courteous to coworkers and guests.
  • Assists the Senior Staff Accountant in training and assigning tasks to Accounting Department staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The Staff Accountant regularly communicates and exchanges information with coworkers, regularly operates a computer and other office equipment, and occasionally needs to move about the office. The workplace is a smoke-filled environment and the noise level varies from quiet to loud depending upon the time of day and the amount of business.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (accounting preferred).
  • One (1) year of accounting-related work experience (casino experience preferred).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with GAAP and ability to grasp financial policies and controls.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Stable employment history.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and programs.
  • Able to report for duty as scheduled, work long hours (including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays) as needed to meet deadlines, and to work under stressful conditions.
