Job Description

The Admitting Receptionist is responsible for the admission of patients to and from the facility. This individual is the first point of contact for patients and visitors entering the facility and is responsible receiving visitors and patients in a pleasant and helpful manner. Individuals in this role are responsible for managing and maintaining patient medical records relates to the surgery center.

5:30 am - 2:00 pm M-F

Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Check in and register patients, verify and update necessary information accurately and efficiently in the appropriate record.
  • Affix identification bracelet on patient and notify appropriate area of patient’s arrival promptly.
  • Review and update patient charts and records accurately and efficiently.
  • Answer telephone pleasantly and graciously, screening calls, taking messages, and providing information.
  • Serve as PRN scheduling secretary as needed.
  • Follow all emergency codes and measures applying to this position.
  • Maintain patient reception area including ensuring area is neat; updating and stocking reading materials as needed; and stocking and filling refreshments and supplies.
  • Maintain and restock supplies in front desk area as needed, ensuring an organized and clean work area.
  • Process incoming faxes and mail filing or distributing appropriately.
  • Maintain hard-copy medical records according to Medical Records policies and procedures and move appropriate charts to storage annually.
  • Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
  • Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Education:

Minimum of high school diploma or GED required. Experience managing and processing medical records required.

Working Conditions:

Standard work environment is an office setting. Work requires sitting for long periods of time. Position requires viewing and typing on a computer for long periods. Occasionally bending, lifting, and reaching required to deal with files, paper, supplies, etc., including lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.) regularly. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with employees. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Work may be stressful at times. Regularly interacts with the staff, physicians, business associates, and the public, which may include sick or injured people.
