POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Dental Assistant Supervisor and the Dental Manager, performs chairside work assisting a dentist in the treatment of patients; maintains records of treatments, supplies, and materials; prepares operatory for dental procedures; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment by providing back up coverage for sterilization tech as needed. Oils and cleans equipment; cleans dental office and operatory.
- Maintains proper infection control procedures; wears required personal protection equipment as per OSHA standards.
- Prepares patients for treatment by seating patients, taking blood pressures, and reviewing medical history; presents and witnesses signatures on all appropriate consent forms.
- Reviews patient chart and ensures all paperwork, x-rays and treatment are current.
- Performs routine laboratory work such as pouring and trimming working models; packaging and shipping models to appropriate lab; receives and organizes lab cases/slips as they are delivered.
- Keeps current with software specific for electronic dental records; provides accurate documentation by charting each patient’s oral health, treatment plan, and chart notes; ensures that consent forms are signed by all persons required and reports any missing information in chart to supervisor or appropriate staff member.
- Prepares operatories for dental procedure; assists chairside, passing various instruments and supplies to dentist.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:
- Strictly adheres to the ethics and Code of Conduct as established by the American Dental Association, Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners, and Aviva Health.
- Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently and timely. Works with minimal supervision and exercises sound judgment and is detail oriented.

- Promotes positive customer relations and service to both internal and external customers by providing customer services to all patients in a non-discriminatory, confidential, professional, and friendly manner that builds dignity for each individual customer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent education and a minimum of 6 months dental clinic or similar experience.
- Oregon Radiology certification preferred.
- Ability to maintain and interpret various records relating to patient care and dental services; ability to prioritize.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
