Job Description

DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is seeking a highly motivated Mechanic with a great attitude, strong ethics, and a vast mechanical aptitude. This job is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipment under the direction of the Shop Manager. The position requires mechanical repairs and repairs, maintaining diesel and gasoline equipment, completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements by correcting vehicle deficiencies, maintaining proper records of repairs, and practicing shop safety.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Prioritize and work on projects needing immediate attention.
  • Perform repairs as directed.
  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion.
  • Assist in fabrication of new equipment/new builds as directed.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; adjusting and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls, and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Conducting field visits in case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Keep a clean and safe environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  • Technical educational training in Mechanics is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A valid driver's license with at least 3 years of clean MVR required. Class B CDL preferred but not required.
  • Must have experience in heavy truck (gas and diesel vehicles) repair.
  • Experience in welding in required.
  • Must be good with small hand tools, as well as chainsaws, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must have experience working on sweepers, catch basin trucks, and tractors.
  • Ability to work overtime a plus.
  • Must have your own tools.
