The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America's national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Information about the role and the Office

This position is located in the Development Office's Campaigns & Restricted Giving (CRG) unit. The Development Office is responsible for raising funds from the private sector to support the Museum's programs and operations. The Campaigns & Restricted Giving unit supports major gifts and planned giving officers' fundraising efforts through the creation of restricted donor proposals, budgets, reports, and other various resources. Additionally, the CRG provides oversight and administration of the Museum's restricted fund accounts. The unit organizes and manages targeted restricted giving campaigns, coordinates recognition and stewardship of restricted donors, and oversees the Strategic Advancement Committee. Further, the unit manages the Museum Director and Chief Development Officer's prospects, ensuring the timely and appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of the Museum's top prospects.

The Special Projects Manager position provides assistance to the Campaigns & Restricted Giving unit through the planning, implementation, and management of various priority projects and activities designed to enhance and strengthen the Museum's relationships with major donors. The Campaigns & Restricted Giving unit's work requires ongoing coordination and integration with staff and resources from numerous divisions both within the Development Office and other Offices across the institution.

This is a full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the Museum's private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.

This position is located in Washington, DC and is hybrid telework eligible, within the local commuting area of the Museum worksite.

Duties and Responsibilities for the role

  • Coordinates projects from start to finish, identifying project deliverables and ensuring they are on time and of the highest quality.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of a strategic and comprehensive restricted giving recognition and stewardship program to include establishing best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Creates and manages restricted donor stewardship plans.
  • Manages restricted donor recognition in print, online, and broadcast media.
  • Drafts and edits content for restricted gift acknowledgments and other donor engagement materials.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends improvements in restricted giving recognition and stewardship tracking including identifying sustainable technology.
  • Establishes mechanisms for tracking information that demonstrate the tangible impact of donors' restricted gifts.
  • Collaborates with the Annual Fund and Donor Relations unit to coordinate processes.
  • Creates, executes, monitors and measures targeted restricted giving campaigns, including named and endowed gift opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains targeted restricted giving campaign timelines, detailing the phases of the campaigns and the necessary resources needed in order to achieve campaign goals.
  • Improves new restricted giving targeted campaigns using data, analytics, and feedback from existing and previous projects.
  • Provides input and expertise for strategy and solicitation discussions with major gifts and planned giving officers.
  • Assesses processes and identifies improvements that optimize resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for the role

  • 4+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience working in donor relations, recognition, or stewardship.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and monitor multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills; ability to be self-motivated and self-reliant.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with both internal and external contacts.
  • Willingness to explore new tools and technologies and assess their appropriateness for different projects

Preferred Qualifications for the role

  • BS/BA Degree
  • Experience working with large, complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of the Museum, its mission, and the history of the Holocaust.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
  • PMP Certification.
