Salary: $18-$20/hour, depending on experience

SummerKids Extended Care Staff


Location: Bend, OR

Status:   Summer Seasonal, 10-20 hours/week*

Schedule: June 19th - Aug 16th, Monday - Friday

  • Apply for AM Extended Care and/or PM Extended Care shifts
  • Extended Care: Monday - Friday, 7am - 9am and 3:30pm - 5:30pm
  • *Additional work opportunities available for applicants over age 25 possessing a valid driver’s license
  • Mandatory Training Dates: June 12th-15th and 17th-18th (we will work around finals week for students; dates subject to change, exact times TBD)

Program Overview:  SummerKids is a weekly theme-based day camp for youth in 1st through 6th grade and is hosted at a Bend elementary school (TBD). We offer extended hour options for families in the form of our Extended Care program. This program can have 35-45 youth in 1st-6th grade.  


All staff at SummerKids are invaluable members of our team who are role models, motivators, team builders, educators, and spark champions.  They facilitate a safe, fun, and confidence-building summer for all our campers.  As part of the Extended Care team, staff will implement planned activities, contribute ideas, and help to ensure a memorable experience for the campers, their families, and the other Camp Fire staff in the SummerKids community.  We strive to create an environment where each camper and staff member has a sense of belonging, opportunities to share passions, and a place to thrive.


Position Overview:  

Extended Care staff will lead games and activities, connect with families, and manage the physical and emotional safety for a group of 35-45 youth. Extended Care staff will get direct support from the SummerKids Leadership Team to ensure consistent practices around behavior management, activity facilitation, and the creation of a welcome and supporting environment. 


Skill and Qualifications:

Applicants who do not meet all of the qualifications listed below but present other relevant qualifications or experience will be considered. We strongly encourage anyone who feels passionate about this work, has a strong desire to grow their skills, and believes they have what it takes to thrive in this role to apply.


Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with elementary aged youth or demonstrated desire to learn OR some higher education, classwork, or training in the youth development field or other related fields
  • Training and experience with best practices in teaching, group management, planning and designing activities, social-emotional learning, and trauma informed care for elementary youth
  • First Aid/CPR certified (or ability to get certified by start date or soon after) 
  • Applicant must have graduated high school by June 2024

  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to create developmental relationships and connect with youth and staff
  • Ability to effectively manage groups of youth 
  • Strong verbal communication skills with youth

Compensation:  $18-$20/hour, depending on experience.
