We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our team in the operating room. As a CST, you will provide assistance and support to the surgeon and operative team to ensure a safe environment, properly functioning equipment, and adherence to surgical concepts and infection control principles. You will work with customers of all ages and will be responsible for collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure optimal outcomes for surgical customers.

 

Provides assistance and support to the surgeon and operative team to ensure a safe environment, equipment functions properly, adheres to surgical concepts and infection control principles for the customer who may include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults or older adults. The Surgical Technologist (CST) works under the supervision of the registered nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates as a team member with other health care providers to ensure optimal outcomes for surgical customers.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and responds promptly and effectively.
  • Evaluates one's own practice in relation to professional standards of practice and relevant statues and regulations.
  • Participates in Quality improvement activities to ensure remarkable care for surgical services customers and families.
  • Cares for instruments and equipment before, during and after surgery to ensure proper function.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrument/equipment use.
  • Creates a safe customer environment by implementing surgical asepsis, sterile technique, surgical conscience, universal precautions, and all customer safety procedures.
  • Assists the surgeon during the operative procedures within scope of practice
  • Participates in perioperative safety, Time Out, Fire Safety, Injury Prevention, etc.
  • Identifies specimens before passing off the field.
  • Assists RN with circulating duties as assigned.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
  • The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
  • The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list. • Recognizes and complies with legal, regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.
  • Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in the  Corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
  • Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent.


 

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Previous Operating room experience preferred.
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Communication and Interpersonal skills


 

Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through governing body, i.e. National Board Surgical Technologists(NBST), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or obtained within 12 months of hire
  • Community Standard
  • BLS certification required at time of hire- NMHC Standard

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • ACLS
  • BLS
