Job Description
Join an esteemed local law firm as a Probate and Estate Planning Legal Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting attorneys and clients through the probate and estate planning process. Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in managing probate and estate planning cases from inception to closure.
- Prepare, draft, and review legal documents related to probate matters, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Coordinate client meetings, appointments, and court appearances, ensuring schedules are organized and efficient.
- Communicate with clients, beneficiaries, and other parties involved in probate proceedings, providing updates and answering inquiries.
- Conduct research on probate laws, regulations, and procedures to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic and paper files for probate cases, including client records, correspondence, and court filings.
- Assist in the preparation of estate planning documents, including trust agreements, advance directives, and guardianship nominations.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other legal staff to ensure compliance with deadlines, court rules, and client expectations.
- Handle administrative tasks such as billing, invoicing, and managing client accounts related to probate and estate planning matters.
- Provide general administrative support to the legal team, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing office correspondence.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal in probate and estate planning practice.
- Proficiency in legal research and document drafting using Microsoft Office Suite and legal software such as Clio or MyCase.
- Strong understanding of probate laws, procedures, and terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Certification as a paralegal or legal assistant is a plus.
