POSITION SUMMARY:
Horizons Edge’s Camp Counselor will support the overall management of Multi-Activity Camp at Horizons Edge Sports Campus. The candidate will provide a safe and fun experience for our campers during daily activity while also providing direction and development opportunities for campers. Horizons Edge will host a multi-activity camp for Camp Counselors to participate in three-day long staff training prior to campers’ arrival, establish a rapport with campers and parents, and serve as a role model for campers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Participates in a three-day long staff training course before campers arrive. Training covers a variety of topics including but not limited to, daily programming, teaching techniques, incident reporting, emergency procedures, risk management, and attachment styles. Training is designed to prepare counselors for what they might experience during the summer.
· Establishes a rapport with all campers during their activities, identifies campers’ needs, likes, and dislikes, and creates a safe environment where campers can grow in their relationships.
· Supervises, instructs, and participates in activities with a group of 10-15 campers each day.
· Serves as a role model for campers, encouraging respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. Provides examples of positive behavior for campers through cleanliness, punctuality, and respect for themselves, others, and the environment.
· Ability to plan, create, organize, and carry out daily and special programs and activities of campers.
· Ability to observe camper behavior, determine appropriateness, enforce safety procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
· Ability to adapt and effectively deal with extenuating circumstances including but not limited to bullying, fighting, injuries, etc.
· Ability to effectively supervise youth during activities including swimming, climbing, sport activities, and more.
· Ability to serve as a visual and auditory guide to participants through a variety of activities.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:
· Must be at least 18 years old.
· High school diploma and/or experience with youth programs required.
· Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
· First Aid and CPR certifications required within the first 60 days of employment.
· Experience in a day camp or sports camp setting working with children preferred.
· Previous knowledge of a variety of recreational and athletic activities, as well as basic sports skills, instruction and knowledge of sports rules and regulations preferred.
· Desire to work with children and a diverse group of participants.
