Department Summary

The Facilities Team supports all staff and faculty under the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Our Department occupies Knudsen Hall, the Physics & Astronomy Buildings, the Planetarium (located in the Math Sciences Building) and a portion of Kaplan Hall (Division Mechanical Shop), totaling approximately 150,000+ square feet and an asset total of $11M.The team also supports the Research Store, Shipping and Receiving, Nitrogen Supply, Purchasing, IT related infrastructure and department events
Position Summary

The Department of Physics & Astronomy is recruiting for a junior level Facilities Specialist to join our team! This is a full-time onsite career position eligible for full benefits. Please visit our to learn more about our department.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

  • 1. Demonstrated ability to lift 50 pounds. (Required)
  • 2. Skill in using electrical tools, carpet cleaning machines, and specialty tools assembly and repairs of equipment and research apparatus. (Required)
  • 3. Skill and ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. (Required)
  • 4. Ability to take directions and follow tasks through to completion with minimal supervision. (Required)
  • 5. Completion of Physics & Astronomy shop training course for use of Physics Shop Equipment & Machinery. (Required)
  • 6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, researchers, students and visitors in the department. (Required)
  • 7. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written on an individual or group basis. (Required)
  • 8. Demonstrated ability to safely operate a forklift to move equipment and deliveries. (Preferred)
  • 9. General knowledge of basic laboratory apparatus and sensitive research apparatus and set-up or work experience in that area. (Required)
