ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Organizes and supervises Research and Development Specialists and resources in bringing new product ideas to fruition. This includes new and/or existing products based on the priorities of meeting profitability objectives, company deadlines, operating budget responsibilities, and department goals. Coordinates, develops, and evaluates new and existing formulas for compliance with NOW’s specifications, company SOPs and cGMP requirements. Coordinates necessary lab work and/or reference searches in biology and chemistry to facilitate NOW product analyses and development. Coordinates the New Product Development group meetings and correlates information from other departmentstakeholders into a cohesive new products process. These processes include: relaying information on new product concepts, ensuring that the group understands the in house manufacturing capabilities, technical strategies, cost analysis, and product specifications. Monitors and documents new product development flow processes to ensure timely introductions and minimize unnecessary costs and time delays. Tracks all department tasks and metrics relating to new products and communicates status to Sales and Marketing New Product Development Committee and management. Manages projects including expenses, improvement modifications and assists with Capital projects. Reports on potential problems and progress on current projects in a timely manner. Oversees the development of technical documents, including SOP’s, forms, work instructions, master manufacturing record instructions and other documents while complying with company requirements, cGMP and FDA regulations. Provides guidance, training and coaching/mentoring to R&D team related to chemical, physiological, biochemical, and biological issues related to the development of new products. Oversees multiple projects across all product categories and ensures project managers meet company goals and project deadlines. Leads product and packaging enhancements, quality improvements and cost reductions. Assists management in evaluating new production equipment as well as new or existing processes. Implements changes as needed to maximize efficiency and accuracy of new product introductions. Complies with all safety and cGMP requirements. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises R&D Project Managers, R&D Personal Care Chemists, R&D Specialists and R&D Documentation Specialist positions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelors of Science degree from an accredited university in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or biomedical/nutritionally related science (Masters preferred) and a minimum of five years of experience in product development and scientific research as well as tablet and capsule formulation. A working knowledge of food science, chemistry, biochemistry or biomedical sciences with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret biomedical periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or legal/patent documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, technical articles, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, scientists, and coworkers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Excellent problem solving, judgment and analytical skills required. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent time management, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, listening, decision-making, and organization skills required. Excellent computer skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and scientific databases. Oracle experience is preferred. Must possess strong organizational, leadership and project management skills, be a self-starter and able to handle multiple tasks. Must possess professional attitude and be able to work well with peers and management. Up to 30 lb. force for up to 25 feet and then pull to original position. Up to 33 lbs. from 5 inches off ground and raise to 47 inches and then return 33 lbs. to original position. Up to 50 lbs. for 3 feet at waist level; lift bag/box onto side and return to original position. Pallets weighing up to 55 lbs. from floor onto one side, move it up to 10 ft. and return to original position.
